Candle Care

when using your candle

The first burn is the most important. Allow the wax to melt all the way to the edge of the glass jar or tin. It’s best to do this on every lighting if you can. This prevents tunnelling, where the wax melts unevenly, creating a shorter burn time.

Trim the wick to 5mm (1/5 inch), each time before lighting your candle. This makes sure that the flame is the right size to optimise fragrence release and that there isn’t any black smoke. This can be done by simply pinching the burnt wick away with your fingers. Make sure the wax is clean and that there are no wick trimmings or used matches in the wax.

Blow out the candle when only 1cm (1/2 inch) of wax remains. Blow out the candle if it smokes or if the flame is too big. Wait until it is cool and then trim the wick before relighting.

Burn your candle on a fire resistant surface. The surface should be even and must be away from flammable items. Do not keep your candle lit for more than 4 hours at a time and be careful when blowing out the flame - the jar or tin will be hot. Leave to cool before touching.

Never leave your candle burning unattended. Keep away from drafts and out of reach of children and pets

reusing your glass jar

Our candles have been designed with a second life in mind. Sustainability is at the core of Cedar London and our jars have been designed with minimal branding so that they can be easily repurposed throughout your home. Cedar London glass candles can also be refilled with any of our signiture scents.

/01
Place the candle in a bowl of hot water to loosen the remaining wax. Poor the wax away if it is melted or use a spoon to scoop out.

/02
Remove the wick holder from the jar. We use glue designed to make this as easy as possible. Carefully poor hot water on the bottom of the jar and use a spoon to take the wick holder out.

/03
Don't overheat. Glass can crack and become unsafe if it gets too hot. Do not use boiling water directly on the candle jar and do not microwave.

/04
Refill your candle jar with a Cedar London refill candle or repurpose as a tumbler, pot or planter.
